Seva (Service)

Seva, or selfless service, is an essential expression of spiritual life and a living reflection of the teachings of Devraha Baba. At Devraha Baba International Retreat Center, service is not viewed as charity alone, but as an act of devotion—offered with humility, compassion, and without expectation of reward. Rooted in the values of simplicity and surrender, our seva initiatives aim to serve those in need while nurturing a spirit of responsibility and care for all beings. Through service, we seek to translate inner stillness into meaningful action, allowing spiritual practice to naturally flow into compassion for the world. Our seva activities include support for feeding programs, healthcare assistance, educational aid, and environmental care. These efforts are carried out with respect for human dignity and guided by the principle that true service uplifts both the giver and the receiver. Seva at the Retreat Center is open to all—residents, visitors, and volunteers alike. Whether through hands-on involvement, offering time and skills, or supporting initiatives through donations, every act of service is valued as a sacred contribution. Through seva, we honor the timeless truth that spiritual growth finds its fullest expression in selfless action, and that a life of devotion is inseparable from a life of compassionate service.

Shri Devraha Baba taught that true spirituality naturally expresses itself through seva — selfless service performed with humility and compassion. He emphasized that since the Divine resides in every living being, serving others with love is itself a form of worship. Baba encouraged devotees to cultivate kindness, help the needy, and live with a spirit of daya (compassion) toward all creatures. He reminded seekers that external rituals have little meaning if the heart is not softened through service and righteous conduct.

According to Baba, seva purifies the ego, strengthens devotion, and brings inner peace. Whether through small daily acts of kindness or organized humanitarian efforts, sincere service performed without expectation of reward becomes a powerful path of spiritual growth.
